Alum Combines Passion for Family Law and Legal Tech with Online Prenup Platform

Nicole Sheehey graduated from Illinois State University with a double bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish. She then went on to graduate with her Juris Doctorate from the law school in 2017. During her time in school, Nicole competed in moot court competitions, was a moot court board director, and a contracts teaching assistant.

In 2019, Nicole began producing content during the early stages of development for the platform HelloPrenup, a first-of-its-kind platform that makes prenuptial agreements affordable, approachable, and accessible to all couples. She continued in a contract role until 2022, when she was brought on a a full-time content specialist. Soon after, she was promoted to Head of Legal, where her passion for family law and innovative legal technology were able to meet.

In her role, Nicole oversees all legal aspects of the business, ensuring that the platform remains compliant with evolving state laws and regulations, reviewing and updating legal content, advising on new product developments, and ensuring that all agreements are legally sound and user-friendly. She also manages the internal legal team, outside counsel, and works closely with the marketing and production teams to ensure that all of HelloPrenup’s legal resources are accessible.

Advice to Recent Law School Graduates

When asked what advice she would give to recent law school graduates, Nicole says to remember that a law degree opens a plethora of doors beyond traditional legal practice. “Explore the exciting possibilities in field like legal tech,” she stated.
